Inside Our Tuscan Modern Oasis: A Warm, Timeless Bathroom Remodel in Odessa, FL
Every now and then, a project comes along that feels like the perfect blend of architectural character, thoughtful design, and client vision. Our latest bathroom remodel in Odessa, FL is exactly that—a space rooted in Tuscan warmth and modern livability, designed to honor the home’s original charm while elevating functionality in a truly luxurious way.
For homeowners throughout Tampa Bay who are considering a bathroom remodel, this project is a beautiful example of how intentional design can completely transform a dated space into a serene, inviting retreat.
From 2000s Time Capsule to Tuscan Modern Serenity
When we first walked this Odessa home, the bathroom was a hallmark of early-2000s construction: a massive built-in garden tub placed in the center of the room, tiled on all sides, and angled awkwardly near the shower. Despite the layout challenges, the home itself carried strong Tuscan influences that the homeowners loved—creamy travertine floors, rich wood tones, and warm, earthy neutrals.
Instead of fighting the architecture, we leaned into it.
Our goal was to create a bathroom that felt connected to the rest of the home, honoring its style while gently modernizing and refining the details. The result is a Tuscan Modern Oasis designed for today’s lifestyle yet timeless enough to belong in this home for decades.
Connecting the Home Through Travertine: French-Pattern Flooring
A signature feature of this home is the existing travertine flooring, which flows throughout many of the main spaces. Maintaining consistency was important for both beauty and resale value—especially in Tampa Bay’s competitive housing market where cohesive finishes often translate into higher appeal.
But finding the right travertine for a remodel isn’t as simple as grabbing a tile that looks close.
Many travertines lean gray or overly mottled, which can clash with older stone. For this bathroom renovation, we searched specifically for a warm, creamy French-pattern travertine that complemented the undertones of the existing floors. After reviewing dozens of options, we landed on a pattern with subtle yellow-cream warmth that blended perfectly.
The small Versailles layout brings movement and organic texture—a hallmark of Tuscan design—while keeping the space feeling soft and welcoming.
A Freestanding Tub That Transforms the Space
One of the biggest design wins in this bathroom remodel came from rethinking the tub placement. By removing the oversized garden tub and rotating a new freestanding tub ninety degrees, we opened the room dramatically.
This single change created space for:
Additional cabinetry
Improved storage
A custom vanity designed specifically for our client, the matriarch of the home
A better flow from every view point
Because the tub is now the focal point as you enter the bathroom, we highlighted it with a picture-framed marble accent wall and a soft pendant light that brings a gentle glow to the space.
This feature will become one of the signature moments of the home—a luxurious yet understated detail that elevates the entire renovation.
Ogee Corners & Custom Backsplash: Tuscan-Inspired Detailing
Tuscan design celebrates craftsmanship, so we incorporated an extended-height backsplash with custom ogee corner detailing at the vanity.
It’s a subtle element, but one that makes the space feel intentionally curated rather than builder-basic. These rounded details echo the architecture found throughout the home, creating continuity while adding softness to the bathroom’s strong stone textures.
For clients in Odessa, Tampa, Trinity, and the greater Tampa Bay area, details like these can make a remodel feel genuinely elevated—especially when renovating homes with existing Mediterranean or Tuscan influences.
Design Tip of the Month: How We Select Bathroom Tile
Choosing tile is often one of the most overwhelming steps in a bathroom remodel. In Tampa Bay, where many homes feature warm Mediterranean palettes or coastal neutrals, it’s especially important to get the undertones right.
Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at how we approached the tile selections for our Odessa project:
1. Pattern Play
We mix patterns and textures to bring movement to the space. When everything is flat and smooth, a bathroom can feel sterile. Pattern introduces depth and character.
2. Name That Tone
Tile selection begins with identifying undertones.
Are the tiles:
Warm and creamy like travertine?
Cool and crisp like gray marble or porcelain?
This determines whether the design will feel cohesive or clash. For this home, warm undertones were essential.
3. Work With What Exists
Because the rest of the home uses warm travertine, we searched for a tile that complemented—not competed with—the existing stone. This is a crucial step in any Tampa Bay bathroom remodel, where older finishes often guide the new design direction.
4. Gloss + Texture
We consider whether a space calls for polished stone, honed surfaces, handmade-looking textures, or organic edges. These decisions influence light reflection, maintenance, and overall feel.
5. Tile Thickness + Application
Different materials work better on floors, walls, or accent areas. Choosing the right application ensures longevity—especially in humid Florida bathrooms.
